What Localstreet is. A directory of local independent businesses. Unclaimed pages are built from public information — the business's own public listing and Companies House — and refreshed monthly. We hold: business name, address, phone number, opening hours, trade, and the words on the page. We never copy reviews or photos we have no right to use.

Lawful basis. Legitimate interest in publishing business contact information that the business itself publishes. A sole trader's listing can be personal data: any owner can have their page removed (Remove my page): we text a code to the mobile on the listing, or ring the listed number within 2 working days, so that only the business itself can take its page down.

Visitors. We count page views and taps (call, directions, claim) on our own server with no personal identifiers, to show owners what their page did. That needs no cookie and stores nothing on your device.

Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see where they came from. It sets its own cookies (_ga, _ga_*) on your device so it can tell one visit from another; they hold a random identifier, not your name. Google receives your IP address and browser type, and its own privacy policy covers what it does with them. We have turned off Google Signals and ad personalisation, so nothing here feeds advertising. To refuse the cookies, block them in your browser or use its Do Not Track / private mode — the site works the same. The map on a business page loads from OpenStreetMap only when you press "Show map". The claim and remove buttons run Cloudflare's Turnstile check to tell a person from a crawler: Cloudflare sees your IP address and browser for that check, sets no cookie and keeps no identifier.

Notifications. If you add Localstreet to your home screen you can choose to get notifications, one topic at a time (a morning summary, replies to your noticeboard posts, food-bank needs, roadworks, kinds of event). We keep only the topics you ticked, your home area and the delivery address your browser gives us for them: no name, no email, no record of what you read, and nothing used for tracking or advertising. Nothing is sent between 9pm and 8am. Turn any topic or all of them off at Notifications, or block notifications for this site in your browser; either way the record is deleted (if you block them in the browser, the next time we would have sent one).

Morning briefing. The daily briefing for each area (read by Alexa, or in a feed reader, at /briefing/<area>.json) is the same for everyone and holds no personal data: it is made from TfL, Give Food and the What's on listings. Amazon fetches it for its listeners, so we never learn who listens.

Local ads. When you post an ad, a job or a space to let we keep what you typed (title, description, price, postcode), your name, your mobile number and, if you give it, your email. The mobile gets a code to check it's really you and a text when someone replies; it shows on the ad only if you tick "Show my number". The email is used only for the reminder before your post ends. Photos you add are stored with the ad and shown on it. The text and photos are checked by an automated moderator (an AI model) and sometimes by a person before the post goes up. Replies keep the name, contact and message the replier typed, for you to read on your private page. To limit abuse we keep a short scrambled code made from your IP address that changes every day and cannot be turned back into it.

Bookings. When you ask a business to call you we keep your name, your mobile number, what you need, the days you asked for and, if you give it, your email. The business gets your name, number, request and, if you gave it, your email by text when it has a mobile (or by email when we can't text it), so it can call you back. We use your email for our confirmation and one follow-up asking whether they got back to you; every email has a link to stop them.

Groups. When you add a group we keep what is shown on its page (name, what it does, where and when it meets, the contact you chose) and, privately, the organiser's name and email. That email gets the link that confirms the group and, every few months, a "still running?" email; it is never shown on the page.

Your location. If you let the site use your location, or type a postcode, our server asks postcodes.io (a free public lookup) which borough it is in. It gets the postcode, or the point rounded to about 100 metres, and nothing that says who you are. We store neither.

Your home area. If you choose a home area we keep it in your browser only, in a cookie called ls_home (and the same value in the browser's local storage), so the home page opens on your area. It holds the area's name, such as ealing, and nothing else; it lasts a year and you can clear it in your browser at any time. A cookie called ls_lang_hint only remembers that you closed the language tip.

Owners who claim. We hold the mobile number on the listing (to text the claim link), what you tell us in the chat, and the photos you upload. Ask hello@localstreet.co.uk for a copy or deletion.
