Accessibility statement
Localstreet should work for everyone: on a phone or a computer, with a screen reader, zoomed in, or by keyboard alone.
Our target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. That means, for example:
- text you can zoom to 200% and pages that reflow on a narrow screen without scrolling sideways;
- every form field has a label, and errors are written out, not shown by colour alone;
- you can reach every link, button and form by keyboard, and see where you are;
- images that carry meaning have text alternatives; decorative ones are hidden from screen readers;
- no content flashes, and nothing moves on its own.
How we test
Our build runs automated accessibility checks (Lighthouse) on the business page template, and new page types are checked by hand with a keyboard and a screen reader before they launch. Business pages are built from one template, so a fix there reaches every page.
Known issues
- Maps are drawn by a map library and are hard to use with a screen reader. Everything on a map is also listed as text on the same page.
- The human check on our forms (Cloudflare Turnstile) can occasionally ask for a click. If it stops you, email us and we will add your group, claim or removal by hand.
- Business pages we build use text the business has published. Some of it (menus as photos, for example) has no text alternative; we add one when a business claims its page.
- Pages in other languages, where we offer them, are machine translated and may read less clearly than the English.
